Exclusive interview: Josefine Knutsson talks UFC contract and promotional debut!

Undefeated Swedish strawweight Josefine ”Thunder” Knutsson is ready for her UFC debut on September 16. She will take on Iasmin Lucindo at the Noche UFC at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 27-year-old competed at DWCS last weekend but didn’t get a contract even though she dominated her opponent Isis Verbeek. However, now she finally got the contract she fought so hard for.
In an exclusive interview with Frontkick the 27-year-old comments on the career-changing signing.
”I am indescribably happy about this contract,” Knutsson says. ”It went very fast. I’m both surprised and not surprised, because it went faster than I thought. I thought it was going to take a few months.”

”Reminds me a bit of Amanda Nunes”
Over the past few years, the former Muay Thai and kickboxing champion has become one of the absolute hottest strawweight prospects in the world with an impressive string of wins.
On September 16 she will face her toughest opponent yet in Lucindo.
”She’s from Brazil and has a Muay Thai background,” Knutsson says. ”She has a style that reminds me a bit of Amanda Nunes, not that you can’t compare anyone to Nunes. She’s looking defensive from what I have seen, I’ve just seen one fight with her, but rushes forward. In that way she reminds me of my last opponent Isis Verbeek.”
To take a UFC fight on short notice is not an easy task, but Knutsson has never backed down from a challenge.
”What we have to do is plan the training in a smart way,” Knutsson says. ”But I’m coming from a fight and I’m ready.”
