Amanda Nunes is once again the UFC women’s bantamweight champion after beating Julianna Pena at UFC 277. Pena gave everything in the rematch, but could not match the Brazilian, who dominated the entire fight and opened a deep cut on Pena’s forhead.
“Julianna’s got a big chunk missing from her forehead,” White said. “She’s going to see a plastic surgeon right now. Take some time to heal, and then I don’t know. She got pretty banged up tonight. It was like five or six knockdowns in the first two rounds. She was hurt. She needs to take some time off, relax, spend some time with her daughter and then we’ll go from there.”
Amanda Nunes wanted five rounds with Julianna Pena
Amanda Nunes admitted that Julianna Pena is tough as nails, but also claimed that she decided not to finish the fight to prove a point.
“I know Julianna’s tough,” Nunes said after the fight. “I know. I was ready for that. I could’ve finished her, but I wanted to go five rounds with her tonight to prove I was better than her.”
“Tonight proved that was a lucky day for her,” Nunes said. “If she needed to become a champion like that, she had her time, but now it’s over.”
