The upcoming fight between former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm and former PFL lightweight champion Kayla Harrison has turned into a debate whether the latter will be able to make 135 lbs or not.
“I’m on the stance that you need to make weight. That’s just how it is,” Holm recently stated at the MMA Hour. “I think her mindset should be ‘I’m going to make weight’ because she took the fight at 135.”
The former PFL champion, however, is sure that she will make weight and even claimed she don’t believe in big weight cuts.
“I wouldn’t have made the move if I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it,” Harrison explained in a recent interview with Kevin Iole.
“I have walked around most of my MMA career at 165, 160, because I don’t like cutting weight. I don’t believe in cutting weight. I don’t think it sends the right message to kids. That being said, I don’t agree with this but sometimes you have to show up and do things you don’t agree with in order to make your dreams come true.”
Kayla Harrison: “I’m really confident in my team”
Cutting 30 pounds won’t be an easy task but Kayla Harrison is still confident that she will be able to make it.
“I’m really confident in my team and I’m really confident in myself. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but the things in life that are worth having are usually not easy,” Harrison said.
