The former PFL champ and two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison will take on former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm at UFC 300.
Harrison is used to compete at 155 pounds and many experts and fans doubt her ability to make the bantamweight limit of 135 lbs. Her coach, Mike Brown, is one of the few who isn’t concerned.
“I thought that it’s a commitment, it’s not easy but it’s a weight cut,” Brown recently told MMA Fighting. “She really wasn’t cutting weight at 155. She was fighting at lightweight and really she wasn’t a lightweight. That’s the weight class the PFL had. She was fighting girls much bigger than her in the PFL. I think her cutting some weight is actually going to be beneficial.”
“I don’t know if 135 is the perfect, most optimal weight for her. Probably 145 probably is but lightweight definitely is not her weight, also. She was fighting much bigger girls than her,” Brown said.
Kayla Harrison will have all the eyes on her in her debut and plans to make the absolute best of her time in the limelight.
“I watch the division,” Harrison said a few days back. “I’ve been taking notice. I’ve been keeping my eye on the pulse. They need a new queen. “Court is now in session. The queen has arrived. Saturday night’s going to be my coming out party. Everyone’s going to be put on notice.”
