In recent years, Khabib Nurmagomedov took a step back from coaching and cornering his friend and teammate Islam Makhachev. But for the upcoming title bout against Dustin Poirier, Nurmagomedov will be back in action in the champion’s corner.
“He’s going to be in my corner. Honestly, I’m very happy because he’s one of the best corner coaches, brother, friend. That’s it,” Makhachev told UFC officials.”
Nurmagomedov, who faced Poirier back in 2019, is confident that Makhachev will get his hands raised on Saturday.
“I have a good sense of (Poirier’s) strengths and weaknesses. We are working hard on these aspects,” Nurmagomedov said. “I really hope that Islam will finish him off in the second or third round.”
