Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is back in the gym.

In recent footage the champ turned coach is seen coaching reigning lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in practice.

Khabib could coach Makhachev

If Khabib will be in the corner of Makhachev’s next title defense is still unknown. The champion has no date or opponent set, but Nurmagomedov’s former opponent Dustin Poirier could possibly challenge for the title once again.

Makhachev wants to defend his title in June and recently claimed that “The Diamond” is a worthy challenger.

“He beat a lot of top guys, he’s a legend,” Makhachev told MMA Junkie. “And a fight with him is going to be good for me for the history, for everything, you know? He’s a legend, he beat a lot of top guys, and he’s a tough opponent too. He have a good guillotine.”
