While many thought that former bantamweight champion Petr Yan would outclass the rising star Sean O’Malley at UFC 280, the fight turned out to be a back-and-forth battle where both landed clean and heavy shots. After the final bell, O’Malley stood as the winner via split decision with 29-28, 29-28, 28-29 on the scorecards.

One who wasn’t happy with the decision was former light heavyweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. In a short video one can see Nurmagomedovs reactions to the decision.

“Split?! How? How? No, How,” Khabib said.

Sean O’Malley wants to renegotiate UFC deal

According to UFC 280 judges Ben Cartlidge and David Lethaby, Sean O’Malley won the first and the third round of the fight. Vito Paolillo gave the first two rounds to Petr Yan.

With the massive win, the popular American bantamweight might try to get a new deal with the promotion.

“I can almost guarantee I’m going to go sit down and renegotiate my contract after that,” O’Malley said at the post-fight press conference.

In his nine UFC fights, “Sugar” has collected seven post-fight bonuses, including three Fight of the Night bonuses and four Performance of the Night bonuses. Since his promotional debut back in March 2018, he has seven wins, one loss and one no-contest.
