Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz is set to clash in the main event of UFC 279. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, “Borz” talked about how it feels to fight a legend of the sports.
“I grew up on him. I went to school when he was fighting in the UFC. It’s amazing to fight that guy. I like him. You’ve seen in the movies. If it wasn’t for me, when I was young, the UFC was like movies. Like, ‘I’m never going to get there. I’m just going to see that.’ Now, I’m fighting with that guy I was watching.”
“Borz” thinks that the fight is a perfect opportunity to make money and fight a big name. However, he is not sure his veteran opponent actually will come to fight at the T-Mobile Arena on September 10.
“I still don’t believe that guy will come or show up, that skinny boy,” Chimaev said. “We’ll see what’s happening. I’m just waiting for September 10. It doesn’t matter who I have. I’m training. I said, ‘If you want to fight at 84 (kilo) for his last fight, just show up. I can fight at 84 (kilo). It doesn’t matter.”
Khamzat Chimaev: “We eat the gangsters for breakfast”
Khamzat Chimaev claimed that he was always open for fighting Diaz and has alot of respect for the tough UFC veteran for taking the fight with a young and hungry opponent. Some people believe that “Borz” is hand picked by the organization to end Diaz career, but that does not seem to bother the rising star.
“If they gave me Kamaru Usman, I’d do the same thing,” Chimaev said. “For me, it doesn’t matter. The guy is just a fighter. He’s still dangerous. He fights until the last second. I’m happy he’s fighting with me. He’s one of the legends. He’s one of the ones everyone is speaking like, ‘Gangster, gangster.’ I’m going to show who’s the gangster. Like I told before, we’re from Chechnya. We eat the gangsters for breakfast.”
