UFC superstar Khamzat Chimaev is back in Stockholm, Sweden, to train for his next fight.
In a recent interview with Swedish news site Expressen, Chimaev was asked about his relationship to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
According to Expressen, the UFC star’s team didn’t want him to reply, but Khamzat insisted on giving an answer to the question.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Chimaev said. “He is the president of my country. There is a king in Sweden, isn’t there? If the king tells me to come and dine with him, I will. I will respect the king. [Kadyrov] is the president of my country and I respect him. When he calls me to dinner, I have dinner with him. If I go to the United States, and the president calls me there, I will go there and eat with him.”
When asked about Kadyrov’s human rights violations and close relations to Vladimir Putin, Khamzat gave the following answer.
“What? I am an athlete,” Chimaev said and chose to end the interview.
