Saturday’s flyweight headliner between top ranked Erin Blanchfield and Manon Fiorot is one of the best fights you can ask for in the stacked 125 lbs division.
Both fighters are undefeated in the promotion, with six straight wins each, and both deserve to fight for the belt next. However, champion Alexa Grasso and and No. 1 ranked contender, and former champ, Valentina Shevchenko are currently filming as coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show and unlikely to have their trilogy bout until September as earliest.
““I’m No. 2, she’s No. 3. The only two girls ahead of us are the girls that have been fighting for the title. So when I win Saturday, I feel like I’m definitely a lock for the title,” Blanchfield said on the recent UFC media day. “I think you could definitely argue this is like my third No. 1 contender fight.”
Manon Fiorot: “Deserved two times the title shot”
On the same media day, Fiorot explained that she won’t fight for anything else but a title the next time she steps into the octagon.
“For an (interim) title, yeah, I’m open to that if it’s that kind of fight, but not just a normal one,” Fiorot explained. “Obviously I already deserved two times the title shot, but that’s how life goes. Sometimes there’s injuries and other things.”
