Marlon “Chito” Vera could be just one win away from a title shot.
On February 18, the No. 4 ranked bantamweight is scheduled to face No. 5 ranked Cory Sandhagen at the UFC Apex, and recently talking on the “Believe You Me” podcast, the Ecuadorian gave his thoughts on the high profile bantamweight bout.
“I really believe with a solid win on this guy, I’m fighting for the belt. Regardless of all this hype thing – who has more views, who has less views – it doesn’t fucking matter. You go in there and put the lights out, the views come your way,” Vera said.
In case he doesn’t get the title shot next, the 30-year-old won’t sit around waiting.
“If I’m healthy, why sit down? There’s a bag of money to go and grab, so why not?”
Double champ thinks Marlon Vera should fight in front of huge crowd
The bantamweight division is quite possibly the toughest division in the UFC right now.
Former bantamweigt champion Henry Cejudo, who might return to challenge for the title next year, believes the fight between Marlon Vera and Cory Sandhagen deserves a big stadium instead of the small Apex venue in Las Vegas.
“Anybody, any of those guys could challenge for the title and beat the champ right now,” Cejudo said in recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel.
“I think a fight like that belongs in a big stadium, belongs in a sold-out arena. The Apex is not doing justice for any of the fighters. Yeah the UFC’s saving money, but again, it’s not promoting the sport.”
