About a week ago, Swedish bantamweight Pannie Kianzad signed the contract for a fight against No. 4 ranked Irene Aldana. However, the very next day “Banzai” got badly hurt during training.
“Hi guys, just a few days ago I had great news about me fighting a top 5 opponent. Unfortunately day after I signed my bout agreement I had a bad accident in training. Have had a week now to process everything and how I’m gonna get back on track as soon as possible as a even better version of myself. I guess things happen for a reason and hopefully I can square of with Irene Aldana in the future. It’s been one of my dream match ups for a long time,” Kianzad wrote in a new post on Instagram.
Earlier this year, Pannie Kianzad signed a new deal with the UFC, and on April 16 she defeated fellow Swede Lina “Elbow Queen” Lansberg. After three bloody and exciting rounds “Banzai” stood as the winner by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
Kianzad has won five of her last six bouts in the UFC, including wins over Alexis Davis, Sijara Eubanks and Bethe Correia. She currently holds the No. 9 spot on the UFC bantamweight rankings.
