Chael Sonnen thinks that a fight between UFC stars Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz very well could come to fruition.
According to a recent leak from the UFC ‘War Room’, the matchup is one of several that’s being planned for the coming UFC 276 – along with a title fight between middleweight champ Israel Adesanya and Jared Cannonier.
Speaking on his own ‘Bad Guy Inc.’ podcast, Sonnen asserts why a fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Diaz makes perfect sense for the proposed UFC 276 card.
“Adesanya vs Cannonier is a tough sell as far as being a headliner for PPV. You need to strengthen the card. Chimaev vs Diaz works very much. That works more so now than it did 3 months ago. And you guys might remember 6 months ago when Dana said he was going to make that fight. Was it Nate or was it Nick vs Chimaev? Dana only said it once and it didn’t go anywhere. Chimaev vs Nate Diaz has a very different feel now,” Sonnen says.

As far as Sonnen is concerned, the leaked photos of the planned UFC 276 lineup are very much real.
“Sharing the photo, sharing my opinion – I think it is real. Nate has been crystal clear, get me that fight, get me in there and do it now. As far as the picture, as far as the rumor, as far as the conspiracy, very well done with an art department with a legitimate brain. No. I think it’s a legitimate photo,” Sonnen continues.
UFC 276 is set to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 2.
