“The queen has arrived” – But is Kayla really the new Ronda?

Kayla Harrison is more than ready to put on a performance in her UFC debut on Saturday against former UFC champion Holly Holm.

The former PFL champ and two-time Olympic gold medalist knows she’s just one dominant win from a title shot in a division that lacks star power after Amanda Nunes retired.

“I watch the division,” Harrison said during UFC 300 media day. “I’ve been taking notice. I’ve been keeping my eye on the pulse. They need a new queen. “Court is now in session. The queen has arrived. Saturday night’s going to be my coming out party. Everyone’s going to be put on notice.”

Being compared to fellow Judoka and MMA star Ronda Rousey, the UFC debutant claimed she wants to build on what Rousey accomplished.

“Look, Ronda is a pioneer in this sport. She’s the whole reason I’m sitting here today,” Harrison said. “Now, my job is to stand on top of her shoulders and continue to do that.”

Holm: Kayla Harrison is different

Holly Holm claimed that they are many differences when it comes to stance and size between Rousey and the PFL champ.

“There are some similarities but they are two very different fighters as well. “Even when they get to the ground, Kayla Harrison’s had her ground and pound and Ronda would always kind of reach for the arms. It’s just different. Their styles are different but also a lot of similarities.”
