Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo has an advice for top ranked welterweight Khamzat Chimaev.
On his YouTube channel, Cejudo believed that the new welterweight champion Leon Edwards and former champ, and pound-for-pound king, Kamaru Usman will have an rematch next year. “Triple C”reasoned that if Khamzat beats Nate Diaz on UFC 279, he should move up to challenge for the middleweight gold.
“If I was Khamzat Chimaev, I would go up,” Cejudo said. “Because these guys aren’t gonna fight until February. I think Khamzat beats him. I think he challenges the winner of Israel and Pereira, and I think if he decides he wants to come back down, he should come back down. But I wouldn’t wait for Kamaru or Leon, because he’s looking at potentially a year before he fights somebody like that. I know Khamzat wants to be active, and he’s struggling to make 170, so that’s what I would do.”
The dominant middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira will clash at UFC 281 on November 12 at the Madison Square Garden. However, if Pereira wins it’s not impossible that the organization books an immediate rematch between the two rivals.
In his five UFC fights, Chimaev fought twice in middleweight. In his promotional debut he submitted John Phillips, and not long after he finished Gerald Meerschaert in just 17 seconds with a massive one-punch knockout.
