Top ranked bantamweight Cory Sandhagen outwrestled short-notice opponent Rob Font in the main event of UFC on ESPN 50. After five rounds, Sandhagen stood as the winner via unanimous decision with 50-45 on all three judges’ scorecards.
After the fight, “The Sandman” made his case to fight for the title next.
“I wanted to put a more exciting fight on. I’ve been dealing with a lot of elbow problems recently, and I think I tore my tricep in the first round.” I’m a wrestler now, apparently,” Sandhagen said in the post-fight interview. “Sterling and O’Malley, I’ll see you guys in Boston. I’ve got next.”
In the co-main event, undefeated strawweight contender Tatiana Suarez tapped former strawweight champion Jessica Andrade with a second-round guillotine choke. Suarez definitelyput herself into the title conversation with the win.
