UFC Vegas 56 is a wrap.
The Fight Night card was headlined by a heavyweight main event that saw the former Bellator champ and No. 7 ranked UFC contender Alexander Volkov square off against the No. 8 ranked power-puncher Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
Volkov controlled the center of the octagon from the get-go and picked Rozenstruik apart using long jabs and low kicks. Rozenstruik didn’t get much offense going at first, but he did manage to rock Volkov for a second and then tried to swing for the fences as he smelled blood. However, Volkov held his own in the pocket and turned the tables shortly thereafter as Rozenstruik got a bit too reckless while trying to go for the finish.
Volkov then landed a few more power punches that had Rozenstruik hurt against the cage before Herb Dean decided to step in and put a stop to the bout after just two minutes and 12 seconds.
Rozenstruik immediately protested the stoppage even though it was quite clear that he was over-powered by Volkov’s flurry.
With the win, Volkov returned to the win column and moved to 35-10 as a pro. He now holds a UFC record of 9-4. As for Rozenstruik, he fell to 12-4 as a pro and is now 6-4 inside the octagon.
In the co-main event of UFC Vegas 56, undefeated featherweight prospect Movsar Evloev continued his win streak and moved to 16-0 as a professional as he scored his sixth UFC victory – this time against the No. 10 ranked contender Dan Ige.
Evloev was dominant throughout the bout and ended up winning by unanimous decision. One judge scored the fight 30-26 while the other two judges had it 30-27 on their respective scorecards.
Afterwards, Evloev suggested that the No. 6 ranked contender Arnold Allen has been ducking him and called him out for a fight at next month’s UFC Fight Night card in London.
