Top-ranked bantamweights Song Yadong and Chris Gutierrez collided in the main event of UFC Vegas 83 in Las Vegas, Nevada tonight.
Yadong entered the bout coming off of a TKO win over Ricky Simon in a UFC main event in April of this year. All in all the Chinese bantamweight held wins in four out of his five last bouts. Gutierrez scored a viral knockout over Frankie Edgar last year, but had since dropped to 1-1 in his last couple of fights.
Yadong didn’t get the finish he was looking for, but still got a convincing win with 50-44, 50-45 and 50-45 on the scorecards.
“I really wanted to fight in China, that’s my home,” Song said. “In the top 15, no one takes the fight but I’m coming to get the belt.”
Roundtree Jr gets his biggest win to date
Former light heavyweight title contender Anthony Smith and Khalil Roundtree Jr met in a light heavyweight co-main event bout.
Rountree Jr. secured the biggest victory of his career as he knocked out Smith in the third round.
“I’m in the top 10 now and the only thing that I want to do is fight Alex Pereira,” Rountree said in the post-fight interview.
