UFC 285 will have a second championship fight, as a flyweight title bout between dominant champion Valentina Shevchenko and No. 4 ranked challenger Alexa Grasso is set to take place at the Las Vegas event. ESPN was first to report the news of the title fight.
At the moment it looks like the fight will be the UFC 285 co-main event, as the heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane is set to headline the card.
Valentina Shevchenko has defended the title seven times
Valentina Shevchenko won the vacant flyweight strap back in December 2018, when she fought former strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 231.
Since then, she defended her title no less than seven times, against fighters like Liz Carmouche, Jéssica Andrade and Jennifer Maia. Her last outing was the toughest defense to date, as she defeated Taila Santos via a debated split decision.
Since moving up from strawweight to flyweight, Alexa Grasso collected four straight wins against fighters like Maycee Barber, Joanne Wood and Viviane Araújo.
If Grasso defeats Shevchenko, she will be the second-ever Mexican fighter to become an undisputed UFC champion.
UFC 285 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Also set to fight on the card is Jon Jones, Ciryl Gane, Amanda Ribas, Derek Brunson, Cody Garbrandt and hyped middleweight newcomer Bo Nickal, among others.
