UFC CEO Dana White confirmed that the promotion is planning a new BMF championship bout.

“We’re working on the BMF title right now,” White said at Saturday’s UFC 302 post-fight press conference.

Current BMF-champion Max Holloway is expected to be next in line for featherweight champion Ilia Topuria. White is not against putting the BMF title on the line for their potential clash.

“I love that people love that belt and want to fight for it,” White said about the situation.

The history of the BMF title

The UFC BMF belt has gone from a symbolic championship belt to a slightly more accepted title.

The belt was originally created for the bout between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz back in 2019. When Diaz retired from the sport in 2023, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje fought for the vacant strap, with Gaethje coming out as the winner via a brutal knockout.

Current champion Holloway stopped Gaethje in the very last second of their BMF championship bout at UFC 300 earlier this year.
