On Friday, Yoel Romero will face veteran Melvin Manhoef in the co-main event at Bellator 285 in Dublin, Ireland. However, in a recent interview with MMA Junkie, the Cuban opened up to compete in professional boxing as well.
Like so many others, ”Soldier of God” would like to fight YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul in the squared circle.
”He needs to get humbled, needs to be let known that a true athlete he can’t beat. It doesn’t matter how hard he trains. He can’t beat one,” Romero said.
However, Paul is currently scheduled to take on former UFC middleweight king Anderson ”Spider” Silva in a boxing bout on October 29. This will be the undefeated boxer’s sixth professional appearance in the ring.
Even though Romero recently revealed that he will go down to 185 pounds next, in his quest of becoming Bellator double champion, he also has his mind set on competing in boxing.
The Cuban, who is a former world champion in wrestling and an Olympic silver medalist, actually comes from a family with great tradition in boxing.
“My dad, my cousins, my brother, yeah. It’s actually the family with the most medals in boxing in Cuba,” Romero said.
Besides Yoel Romero, Swedish light heavyweight stand out Karl Albrektsson also fights at Friday’s Bellator 285. The 28-year-old Swede has a professional record of 13-3, with two straight wins in the organization, and will face Karl Moore.
