Boxing superstar Katie Taylor just seeked revenge against undisputed super-lightweight Chantelle Cameron champion in Dublin.
Six months ago, Taylor suffered the first loss of her professional career when she lost to Cameron in Dublin. With that result, she spoiled Taylor’s homecoming and retained the undisputed super-lightweight titles.
The rematch in Dublin gave incredible high-paced action right from the start. Taylor was able to slip her opponent’s jab to deliver her quick combinations, while Cameron’s best work came against the ropes where she landed heavy shots.
Taylor’s blistering hand speed was the key to victory in the fight, even though Cameron had success of her own throughout the fight.
After the final bell in was quite possible the best fight of 2023, Taylor stood as the winner with 95-95, 98-92 and 96-94 on the scorecards.
“The last fight you saw the worst of me,” Taylor said. “Today you saw the real me, and when I box like that no one can beat me.”
The Irish fighter is now the undisputed lightweight world champion and the undisputed super-lightweight champion of the world.
“Let’s get the trilogy at Croke Park,” Taylor said about facing Cameron again.
On the undercard, Gary Cully defeated Reece Mould via split decision to win the WBA Continental Europe Title.
“I’m a bit lost for words,” Cully said. “Ireland, Dublin, best fans in the world. I’m back baby, and it feels good.”
We also saw Skye Nicolson pick up a late stoppage win over Lucy Wildheart to retain her WBC interim featherweight title. Wildheart’s corner threw in the towel in the ninth round, after a one-sided fight.
