Report: Davis vs. Garcia superfight was a HUGE financial success

The fight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was one of the biggest boxing matches of 2023.

After dropping Garcia in the second round, Davis kept his flawless record intact as he finished his hyped opponent in the seventh round with a left hook to the body.

Looking at the pay-per-view buys, it appears that the fight lived up to the hype and then some.

Davis vs Garcia PPV numbers

According to Fight Freaks Unite, the bout generated 1.2 million pay-per-view buys in the U.S. alone. If the numbers are correct, that’s the most buys for a pro boxing fight since 2017, when the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovin generated 1.3 million pay-per-view buys.

Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza commented on the numbers in a statement.

“Although I can’t formally confirm the final numbers at this point, it is clear that Gervonta versus Ryan delivered a memorable knockout in the ring and at the box office and reinforces Showtime as the No. 1 network in boxing,” Espinoza told Fight Freaks Unite.

“We knew this event was going to be special and that it had the potential to connect with an audience beyond the hardcore boxing fan. Tank and Ryan proved that when you match the best against the best, the sports world will turn out in support.”

The boxing fight between Davis and Garcia also generated an estimated $22.8 million live gate, with an announced crowd of 20,842.
