Former UFC champion turned pro boxer Francis Ngannou wasn’t feeling right in the moments leading up to his massive heavyweight boxing showdown against former world champion Anthony Joshua.
“I remember being in the locker [room] trying to warm up, and bro, it wasn’t going. I was falling asleep. I’m sweating, but I’m falling asleep,” Ngannou said during an Instagram Live session on Wednesday.
The former UFC champ suffered a knockdown in round one and then got brutally knocked out cold in the second by a hellish right hand from Joshua.
“We all knew it could happen. I wasn’t seeing it happen like that, but I always knew it could happen. At least, I was always prepared for that.”
Even though the knockout looked deadly, Francis Ngannou claimed he felt just fine afterwards.
“I was conscious right after, and since then everything’s been good. Still going to run some medical work, just in case,” Ngannou said.
The MMA fighter and boxer is not sure which sport he will fight in next, but he knows who he will face if it turns out to be an MMA fight coming up.
“Basically right now, I have an opponent now in the PFL in Renan Ferreira. That will be my future opponent in the PFL, but again, I basically have a lot of fights in the future.”
