From the first round of the fight, a calm and collected Sy utilized his gameplan with heavy kicks from a southpaw stance. He was able to keep his opponent on the outside for most of the fight, and when Taylor got more active in the later rounds, a smiling Sy read his opponent and stopped his takedown attempts.
In the fifth and final round, Taylor kept on marching forward in a more aggressive style, but Sy used his slick footwork to get himself out of harm’s way, while landing kicks and jabs.
After the final bell, Sadibou Sy stood as the winner with 49-46 on all three judges’ scorecards to become the new PFL welterweight champion.

In his post-fight interview, Sadibou Sy, who has been in the organization from the start in 2018, had a hard time finding his words.
“To be honest I have so many things in my mind I have to say. This moment is just overwhelming,” Sy said. “To be here with this belt, five time world champion. My God.”
“I trained for five rounds, I wanted to get him out there earlier, but he came prepared and he was durable, my hats off to him,” Sy said.
