Smilla “The Hurricane” Sundell just lost her ONE Championship Muay Thai strawweight title as she missed weight.
The Swede was 1,5 lbs over the 125 lbs limit. That’s according to reports from Sportskeeda.
Sundell’s team even thought of cutting her hair off to make weight, but the hair reportedly only weighed a quarter of a pound.
Eventually, her team decided to stop trying to reach the weight limit and instead vacate the strap. Sundell became the fourth fighter to ever lose a title on the scale in the promotion’s history.
Official check for Smilla Sundell. She passes hydration but is 126.5lbs.
Sundell defeated Jackie Buntan to win the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Title in April 2022. She defended her belt once against Allycia Rodrigues from Brazil.
Tomorrow, she will take on surging Russian star Natalia Diachkova in the main event of ONE Fight Night 22 on Prime Video. The fight takes place on American prime time tomorrow, at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
At this moment there are no words of Diachkova pulling out of the fight.
