Swedish Muay Thai sensation Smilla Sundell is eager to get her ONE Championship strawweight belt back. She missed weight ahead of her title defense this past Saturday, and as a consequence she was stripped of the belt.
“I do want the flyweight division a lot. I will be better at that weight. But I still want this belt. I just need more time. At least two months I need to prepare,” Sundell recently told Sportskeeda.
The Asia-based promotion will go to the U.S in September, with a card in Denver, Colorado. About two months later they will make a stop in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Swede wants to be a part of either card.
“So maybe America sounds good. That’s my dream. Stam (Fairtex) fighting in Denver. It would be cool to fight in the same show, but if not, I think Atlanta would be cool too.”
According to Sportskeeda, ONE Championship boss Chatri Sityodtong is open to let Smilla Sundell fight for the strawweight title again, despite the weight miss.
“Of course I have regrets,” Sundell said about missing weight. “Yeah, it sucks, but I’m grateful. I think everything happens for a reason. I’m very happy Natalia took the fight and she’s a good opponent and I hope to make it next time and get my belt back.”
