Frontkick’s Tobias Lindkvist talks major and minor events from this past week in the Sunday Column.

1. Why Anderson Silva, why?!

Dear Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, what are you doing to the once glorious sport of boxing?

Last night’s “exhibition bout” between the MMA rivals did not look good on paper, but the outcome was quite frankly enormously disappointing. And because it was an exhibition bout, there was not even a winner, just losers.

I don’t want to watch another glorified sparring session between two MMA fighters ever again. You might as well settle old beefs by playing ping-pong or have a football penalty shootout. That goes to all you celebrity boxers out there too by the way.

2. Why do we even care about McGregor’s return?

According to the Irishman himself, Conor McGregor “is in good spirits” and “confident” he will be back to fight Michael Chandler.

But I don’t know, man.

Cancelled or postponed, the news of McGregor’s pullout just added to the feeling that we will never see him back in the octagon again.

To be honest, maybe that’s for the best.

The thought of McGregor’s return isn’t really thrilling anymore. And the longer he’s away, the more he has to deliver if he ever steps into the UFC limelight. A lackluster return would be such an anti-climax that he might as well retire once and for all.

3. Knutsson adds another win to spotless resume

Sweden’s own Josefine Knutsson is still undefeated as a pro MMA fighter – and even more importantly – still undefeated in the UFC.

She had to dig deep to get the unanimous decision against the tough grappler, Julia Polastri, but that just proves that she’s got what it takes to battle through three hard rounds.

Just keep doing what you are doing, “Thunder”. Don’t care about the finishes, just the wins!

Song of the week

Take a listen to one of the best songs from the summer of 1963. “Just One Look” by Doris Troy is the perfect track for summer vibes.
