Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney recently claimed that the Nevada State Athletic Commission fined him big time after shoving Vasiliy Lomachenko during the ceremonial weigh-in before this past weekend’s massive boxing contest.
“This guy is a fucking sore loser,” Haney wrote on social media. “Get this privileged sore loser out of boxing, he makes excuses as he goes! Take your loss like a man and stop crying. It was set up for you to win for the third time in your career and you failed! Tell the commission give me my $400k back for that push!”
Haney’s purse has been estimated to be $4 million. The push reportedly forced Lomachenko to seek medical assistance to make sure he was still fit to box.
For MMA fans, the huge fine might come as a surprise as they are used to seeing UFC fighters push each other to hell and back during face-offs.
The time when Drakkar Klose suffered a whiplash concussion due to Jeremy Stephens brutal weigh-in shove back in April 2021 is just one example that comes to mind.
Devo Haney got his hand raised in a debated unanimous decision victory against Lomachenko to retain his WBC, WBA, IBF andWBO lightweight titles.
The 24-year-old is undefeated with a record of 30-0 (15 wins coming via stoppage). In 2019, Haney became the youngest world champion in boxing when he was elevated as the WBC lightweight champ.
