On Sunday, boxing star Canelo Alvarez threatened football megastar Lionel Messi for disrespecting Mexico celebration following their 2-0 victory over Mexico. In a series of heated tweets, Canelo accused Messi of kicking a Mexican shirt in the locker room.

Now, however, the boxing superstar admits he went too far and apologized not only to Messi – but to the entire nation of Argentina.

“These last few days I got carried away by the passion and love I feel for my country and made comments that were out of place, for which I want to apologize to Messi and the people of Argentina,” Canelo wrote Wednesday on Twitter. “Every day we learn something new, and this time it was my turn.”
