Californian MMA fighter Chuck Campbell recently reached a new audience in Sweden as he defeated Swedish fan favorite and Bellator veteran Karl Albrektsson to become the new Superior Challenge light heavyweight champion.
In an interview with MMA journalist and Frontkick provider Tony Nguyen the newly crowned champion opens up on the big win.
“This is what I’ve worked so hard for. To come here and defeat the champion, who’s a super tough guy,” Campbell said. “The thing I was worrying about him was his toughness. He’s a grinder. I knew he was going to try to wrestle me and grind me out but I was prepared for it. I worked hard for this.”
Albrektsson was the favorite going into the fight, but Chuck Campbell looked sharp and used his boxing well. In the first round, the American found the mark with his heavy right hand, and in the second round he landed two powerful shots that floored the Swede.
“Yeah, I can see why (Albrektsson was the favorite). He’s young, he has more experience as far as fights, he’s super tough,” Campbell said. “I had a job to do and I came over here and did it.”
The American light heavyweight enjoyed fighting at Superior Challenge and intends to return to defend his new belt as soon as he can.
“I plan on coming over here to defend this belt as much as possible. I like it over here.”
