Since Khamzat Chimaev’s last fight at UFC 279, fans and experts are divided on who, and in what division, the Swede should fight next.
At a recent press conference, UFC president Dana White, commented on what’s next for Chimaev from the promotions point of view.
“It’s funny we were in matchmaking today and we were just talking about Khamzat and possibilities and how fucking good that guy really is, you know? You saw it in this last fight. Kevin Holland, to get beat the way, well, Kevin expected it. For everybody else, to see it happen the way that it happened, nobody saw that coming but Kevin.”
Big beef at matchmaking – Khamzat at 170 or 185?
However, according to the president, the UFC matchmakers recently seemed to have a hard time on deciding where Chimaev should fight next.
“You know, there’s obviously the 170 and 185 pounds. There was a big beef today at matchmaking whether he can make 170 pounds, whether we should even let him make 170 pounds, “White said.
The UFC president claimed to be in the middle of the two camps at matchmaking.
“What does he want to do, where does he want to be and what does he want to do. Does he want to make 170 and go for the title at 170, or does he want to go to185 and go for the title there,” White said.
