The UFC has reeboked the matchup between Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker for UFC 308 in October. The highly anticipated bout was planned for June but got cancelled since Chimaev was forced to pull out on short notice due to health issues.
Whittaker stopped the replacement Ikram Aliskerov by first-round knockout and claimed he would be ready to face the undefeated Chimaev in the future.
Featherweight title on the line at UFC 308
We will also see a featherweight title fight where champion Ilia Topuria defends his strap for the first time. He will take on the seasoned former champion Max Holloway in the main event.
Topuria won the belt in February when he shocked longtime title holder Alexander Volkanovski with a second-round knockout at UFC 298.
Holloway comes from a massive performance at UFC 300 where he knocked out Justin Gaethje in a lightweight BMF title bout.
UFC CEO Dana White announced the news of the matchups on Saturday.
UFC 308 will take place on October 26 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event will mark the promotion’s 20th visit to Abu Dhabi.
