On Saturday, former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos returns to welterweight to clash with Bryan Barberena in the co-main event at UFC Orlando.
At the recent media day, RDA claimed that he dropped the idea of becoming a two-lightweight champion and seemed sick of the mentality in the division.
“I had my last title run in that division,” don Anjos said. “This rankings, the top five little club, they just want to fight between them. When I lost the fight I said ‘hey man, you can take me out of the rankings and I fight at welterweight’,”
If RDA would even consider moving to lightweight again it would be for a very special fight.
“I don’t have plans to win the title in that division anymore, I’ll be honest with you. A couple guys that if it’s in good momentum for me and my personal life as well, I’ll take the fight,” dos Anjos said.
RDA seemed happy with the upcoming matchup against the tough and durable Barberena, who has been awarded with three post-fight bonuses in his last four fights.
“He’s coming in on a three-fight winning streak. He’s a guy that fights forward. He’s the type of fight that I like,” dos Anjos said.
However, the Brazilian still looks ahead at potential big fights like Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal.
“We will see what comes next, Conor is fighting at 170, I don’t see him fighting at 155 anymore, that’s the fight that makes sense.”
