The rivalry between UFC middleweight king Dricus Du Plessis and former champion Israel Adesanya is heating up ahead of this weekend’s title bout, as DDP quite literally made Izzy cry at the UFC 305 press conference.
The buildup to the title fight has had a whole lot to do about who is to be considered a “real African champion” and who resides where, with Du Plessis living in South Africa while Adesanya is based in New Zeeland although born in Nigeria.
Israel Adesanya shouts at Dricus Du Plessis during UFC 305 press conference: “You don’t know my f*cking story”
At the UFC 305 press conference, Adesanya got visibly upset with Du Plessis bringing up “servants”, suggesting Adesanya had a privileged upbringing
“On Tuesday, I’m going back to Nigeria. I think Friday, I’m going to South Africa and then the next week I’m going back to New Zeeland. I am a child of the Earth. I am a child of the Earth, and when I’m taking this belt, I’m taking it everywhere with me,” Adesanya said before Du Plessis replied:
“Are you taking the servants with you when you’re going back?”
“What the fuck are you even on about? Bro shut the fuck up. You don’t even know anything about my story. You have no idea who the fuck I am,” a riled up Adesanya responded, before continuing to shout at DDP:
“You don’t know my fucking story. Don’t fucking speak on my story if you don’t know my story! I will show you who you are on Sunday so right now shut the fuck up!
“I don’t care about your story. I can’t wait!” the champion replied.
Izzy in tears as DDP touches a nerve: “I can cry and whoop your ass at the same time”
A few minutes later, Adesanya was brought to tears at the UFC 305 press conference when asked how he felt about the energy from Du Plessis and all the buildup.
“He touched a subject there, because I do this for my family. I do this for the people I love, and I’ll fight for you forever, I swear to God!” Adesanya said with tears in his eyes, adding:
“Look, I am a fucking human being. I am a man. I can cry and whoop your ass at the same time.”
