Nunes provides updated on potential Shevchenko super fight trilogy

A potential third super fight between two-division champion Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko was once one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC.

In the pair’s second clash back in 2017, the Brazilian got away with a debated split decision victory which added to the hype surrounding a potential third fight.

However, as the flyweight queen Shevchenko lost her strap to Alexa Grasso in March, the massive trilogy has lost its hype according to Nunes.

“I think I have a lot of noise at 135, and I don’t think the UFC is going to stop and then go back with the Valentina thing. That don’t sell nothing,” Nunes said at the UFC 289 pre-fight press conference.

Amanda Nunes not surprised

Shevchenko and Nunes are the two of the absolute best and most dominant fighters to ever step inside the octagon.

“I fought Valentina when she was in her prime, and we were both growing. Last fight, we were both growing as a fighter. Valentina has a lot of holes that I can see. I wasn’t able to do back then, but I see how Alexa Grasso would be able to finish her,” Nunes commented on Shevchenko’s recent title loss.

On Saturday, Amanda Nunes returns to the octagon to defend her bantamweight title against Mexican challenger Irene Aldana. The fight serves as the main event for UFC 289.
