Confident Amir Albazi expects title shot in Abu Dhabi: ”I know I’m next”

On Saturday night, rising flyweight contender Amir Albazi is set for his biggest fight to date as he headlines UFC on Vegas 46 against Kai Kara-France.

According to the Swedish-Iraqi flyweight, there will be no doubt that a win will put him in the position to fight for the title next.

“I don’t need to do a callout,” Albazi said at Wednesday’s UFC on ESPN 45 media day.

“After this fight, they’re going to know I’m next. I know I’m next. I want to fight in Abu Dhabi for the title. I’m going to finish Kai this Saturday night, then I’m going to see how it plays out with Pantoja vs. Moreno. Either one, may the best man win, and I’m next in Abu Dhabi.”

The fight Albazi is referring to is the flyweight championship between reigning champ Brandon Moreno and challenger Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 290 on July 8.

Amir Albazi: ”I’m the next champion”

Even though he sees Kara-France as a skilled fighter, there are no doubt in Albazi’s mind that he will get his hand raised come Saturday.

“He’s a good opponent. Of course, he’s No. 3. But I’m the next champion for the title. So whoever they want to put in front of me, I’ll be ready. … I’m going to show people why I’m the next champion,” Amir Albazi said.

The fight against Kara-France is his first five-rounder in the UFC, but the rising star doesn’t believe the fight will go the distance.

”To be honest, even if I tried to do five rounds – I’m a finisher. I know I’m a finisher and my track record speaks for itself. I’ve finished almost all of my opponents. So even if I tried to keep it for five rounds I’m going to finish the fight.”
