UFC 307 just went down at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The card was headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and challenger Khalil Rountree Jr.
The challenger started strong in the first two rounds, and really pushed Pereria. However, after round three, the champion took over more and more.
In the fourth round, Pereira stepped on the gas pedal and hurt and battered Rountree Jr in all kinds of ways during the round. The Brazilian’s jab and power punches landed at will as blood was running down The challenger’s face and body. In the end, it was two body shots that finally put a stop to the fight.
The win marked Pereira’s third title fight defense in the span of seven months.
After the fight, Pereira said Rountree is one of his toughest fights ever.
She was able to get the win in the women’s bantamweight title grudge match against Raquel Pennington. After five gruelling rounds, the judges gave the former champion the win via split decision with 48-47, 47-48 and 48-47 on the scorecards.
“I heard these judges tonight were doing some crazy stuff. It’s unfortunate I went to a decision. Just a loss of focus and that’s what I would say, I got dropped. Definitely need to be a little bit more focused,” Peña said afterwards.
