UFC Vegas 86 just wrapped up at the Apex in Las Vegas where Swedish-Norwegian middleweight contender Jack Hermansson scored a unanimous decision victory against rising American prospect Joe Pyfer.
This was Pyfer’s first UFC headliner and an opportunity for him to enter the top 15 after having won his first three fights in the world-leading promotion by finish. The hyped-up Dana White’s Contender Series alum was even the betting favorite before the bout, even though the No. 11 ranked Hermansson was certainly the more experienced fighter.
However, while Pyfer did good initially and hurt Hermansson with a couple of good shots in the first two rounds, ”The Joker” would turn the tables and make necessary adjustments both offensively and defensively in order to win the last three rounds on the judges scorecards.
Hermansson used calf-kicks to slow Pyfer down and bloodied the American’s nose, constantly peppering him with jabs. In round five, Hermansson secured a takedown on his first try after having stuffed every takedown attempt by Pyfer up to that point.
In the end, the judges were all in agreement as Hermansson was awarded the win with 48-47 scorecards across the board.
Jack Hermansson wants UFC fight in Sweden, targets Nassourdine Imavov next
In his post-fight interview, Hermansson declared that ”no one has better cardio than me” before once again urging Norway to legalize MMA.
”That’s very important for me,” Hermansson said.
Hermansson also called for another UFC card in Sweden and decided to call out No. 8 ranked Nassourdine Imavov for his next fight. Imavov just defeated Roman Dolidze by decision in last weekend’s UFC headliner at the Apex, so the timing would definitely make sense and they are both ranked pretty close to each other too.
