Swedish top 10 ranked UFC middleweight fighter Jack ”The Joker” Hermansson will be back in the cage for another main event on February 10. He will take on the surging prospect Joe Pyfer who’s undefeated in the promotion with three stoppage wins.
Recently visiting Swedish podcast Käftsmällspodden, ”The Joker” opened up in next fight against Pyfer.
”My plan is to give him something he doesn’t expect. He’s been studying my fights and preparing for what he has seen, so I feel like giving him a different look. He will get some things he won’t expect,” Hermansson said.
The reason Hermansson accepted to face an unranked opponent is simple.
”I said yes to the fight because it’s a main event, you can’t turn that down when you come from a loss. Even though I’m facing an unranked guy who intends to climb with a win against me. If I win this fight I can get something better.”
Jack Hermansson breaks down the title fight
This past Saturday, Dricus du Plessis defeated Sean Strickland to become the middleweight division’s new champion.
”It was a great fight,” Hermansson said. ”In the last round they had two rounds each so it was exciting. It could have gone either way but I think du Plessis had the edge. Well deserved win. I was impressed with du Plessis, he’s throwing with full power throughout five rounds and that his cardio is holding up surprised me.”
The Swede saw a few things he could use against du Plessis in a future matchup.
”He rushes in with his chin up like Derek Brunson used to do. But when someone is going that fast against you, it is hard to be cold enough to counter,” Hermansson said. ”I had used more offensive wrestling against him. Taking him down instead of being taken down, and work more in these exchanges. He’s more open there.”
Faced Strickland in 2022
Jack Hermansson faced Strickland back in February 2022 and lost a tight split decision after five tough rounds.
”He’s become very tactical over the last few years and doesn’t fight as violently as he claims he does,” Hermansson said. ”Against me he moved backwards a lot, which is a bit out of character, I guess to avoid takedowns. That was a bit different with the Strickland I faced. He’s a good jabber and he’s hard to hit,” Hermansson said.
