The the highly anticipated welterweight fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns is finally official for the April pay-per-view event UFC 273.
At the UFC 272 post-fight press conference Dana White even confirms that the bout will be the number one contender fight in the stacked division.
The rising star Khamzat Chimaev has won all of his four fights in the UFC inside of two rounds. In his last bout he defeated Li Jingliang via a dominant first-round submission at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi. A win that got the Swede his fourth Performance of the Night bonus in the promotion.
The No. 2 ranked welterweight Gilbert Burns has won seven of his last eight fights in the UFC. The Brazilian won his last fight against the veteran Stephen ”Wonderboy” Thompson via unanimous decision at UFC 264 in July 2021.
Besides a loss to the champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 258 Burns is unbeaten as a welterweight.
