Usman will get a rematch on Edwards home-turf: ”Anything is possible in England now”

Leon Edwards just shook up the world. In the main event of UFC 278, the British welterweight defeated Kamaru Usman with a violent fifth-round head kick. Usman controlled major parts of the title bout, but with one minute left of the last round, Edwards ended the fight with a heavy kick and was declared the new undisputed UFC welterweight champion.

UFC president Dana White believed people underestimated Edwards, but still thought it was one of the most shocking title fight knockouts he ever saw.

”Yeah, if you think of everything that was on the line for Usman tonight. And Usman fought with absolute and total confidence all night, the perfect fight,” White said at the post-fight press conference. ”He was landing big shots to the body, big shots to the head, elbows, couldn’t had fought a more perfect fight until the last minute.”

Leon Edwards will defend the belt on his home-turf

The UFC president wants to give an immediate rematch to Usman but has now date in mind yet. However, he intends to make fight on Edwards home-turf in England.

”I think we are booked up into January now,” White said. ”We can go to England whenever we want to now, we were selling out England before,” White said. ”I’m serious but joking about Wembley, but yeah, anything is possible in England now.”

With the win, Edwards got his revenge after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Usman in December 2015. He is now the second British champion in the history of the company.
