58-year-old UFC Hall of Famer makes boxing debut against former world champ

UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman has opponent set for his boxing debut.

Coleman will face former boxing champion Montell Griffin in a heavyweight match up that will take place at an Official Celebrity Boxing. At the moment, it’s not announced where the fight will take place, but it will be streamed by Fite.tv.

The experienced boxer Griffin has been away from active competition for more than a decade and last fought in August 2011. He held the WBC light heavyweight title in 1997 and challenged twice for a world title. Griffin became the first man to defeat the legendary Roy Jones Jr.

As an amateur he won the 1992 United States amateur light heavyweight title.

Mark Coleman retired in 2010

Mark Coleman became the first UFC heavyweight champ after submitting Dan Severn via neck crank at UFC 12. However, he lost the championship a few months later as he fell short to Maurice Smith at UFC 14.

The former UFC champion has been retired from MMA action since 2010 and last fought at UFC 109 in February 2010.
