Tonight’s PFL MMA card in Salt Lake City was supposed to feature two Swedish fighters – former PFL champion Sadibou Sy and Bellator vet Karl Albrektsson. However, after a fight card shuffle, Sy ended up stealing Albrektsson’s opponent and finishing The Ultimate Fighter 23 winner Andrew Sanchez in a bout that was literally thrown together on four hours notice.

Sy, a 2022 welterweight tournament winner who now competes at light heavyweight, was originally slated to take on Tom Breese. However, he ended up putting on an impressive performance against Sanchez to beat the American by third-round TKO, after battering him with flashy kicks and crisp punches throughout the bout.

Sadibou Sy: ”Words can’t describe”

Following the win, Sy shared a picture of him and Albrektsson backstage and expressed his respect and gratitude for his long time teammate.

”Words can’t describe, the respect I have for Karl Albrektsson. He was supposed to fight tonight. My opponent pulled out 4 hours before the fight and I got to fight Karl Albrektsson’s opponent, leaving Karl with no fight. Without hesitation Karl asked me ”what do you need I will help you”. Words can’t describe how grateful I am teammates at Pancrase Gym Sweden for life,” Sy wrote on Instagram following the victory.

Despite winning, however, Sy won’t make the playoffs since he lost his last fight and a win in round three only gives you 4 points. Several other light heavyweights have 6 points or more.
