Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou might be closer to fight heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury than what many expected.

According to MMA journalist Oscar Willis of MacLife, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said the following about the potential matchup.

”This is what I’ve heard. It’ll be an exhibition apparently. No knockdowns or anything. I’m only telling you what I’ve heard, who knows what’s what, but I think that is apparently what is going to be the next fight.”

Ngannou has been talking about his desire to box professionally for a long time, but it’s not unthinkable that an exhibition fight could do the trick if the money is right.

Francis Ngannou signed with PFL

On May 16, it was announced that Francis Ngannou inked a multi-fight deal with MMA promotion PFL, while still being free to compete in other sports such as boxing.

Before signing with the promotion, ”The Predator” was a heavyweight champion in the UFC. He won the heavyweight strap by stopping Stipe Miocic with a second-round TKO in March 2021, and defended it in January 2022 as he defeated Ciryl Gane via unanimous decision at UFC 270.

Heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury last competed on Dec 3 last year, when he stopped Derek Chisora via a tenth-round TKO.
