With internationally successful National Teams, promising prospects and global superstars, the Scandinavian Muay Thai scene is as strong as it’s ever been.

There are of course a bunch of fighters we don’t mention in the list, but with that said, let’s take a closer look at the 30 best Scandinavian Muay Thai Fighters right now!*

* On this list we added a few of Finland’s best fighters as well, even though Finland is a part of the Nordic countries, not Scandinavia.

30. Emilia Koivisto

Emilia Koivisto is by far one of Scandinavia’s most promising female bantamweight fighters.

The highly active fighter became the Finnish Champion in 2022 and finally turned pro at STHLM Fight Night 2 in November 2023, where she defeated UK’s Laura Cannon via unanimous decision.

29. Riikka Järvenpää

Five time Finnish Muay Thai champion Riikka Järvenpää is a very skilled fighter and decorated fighter.

On an international livel Järvenpää has a IFMA World Championship bronze medal, one IFMA European Championship silver and two bronze medals as well as a gold medal in the Nordic Championship.

28. Camilla Danielsson

Camilla Danielsson is a decorated fighter with numerous titles to her name, including five Swedish champion gold medals and a IFMA Nordic & Baltic gold medal.

She’s highly ranked both in the WMC and WBC rankings.

27. Ewin Ates

Öresunds Muay Thai’s Ewin Ates is a fast and explosive fighter with four Swedish Championships to her name, including a gold medal in the World Championships in 2021.

26. Johanna Persson

Johanna Persson is a decorated fighter with many titles to her name, including three Swedish Championship gold medals and a WMC Nordic title.

She also represented the Swedish National team in several tournaments.

25. Uma Galli

Uma Galli won the Swedish Championships in 2019 and is known for being the first Swedish woman to fight at the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

With two solid wins at STHLM Fight Night and recent fight at Rajadamnern World Series, the technical Swede is as good as they come.

24. Kenny Hong

Kenny “Starfighter” Hong is a merited fighter who won the 2022 Swedish Muay Thai Championships as well as the Scandinavian WBC-title in 2021.

23. Anton Sjöqvist

The young and promising Anton Sjöqvist is a Swedish Champion and a youth world cup silver medalist.

As a professional fighter he fought in promotion’s like Zone Pro League and Muay Thai For Life and has delivered wins over the likes of Emil Flystam and Dalian Dawoody.

22. Nasim Kazem

The tough and entertaining Nasim Kazem is a Swedish National Team veteran who also has  a clash with world champion Youssef Assouik in Glory on his resume.

At the MTFL 6.0 in October, Kazem defeated the tough Amir El-Dakkak via split decision in the main event.

21. Moa Carlsson

The technical and skilled Moa Carlsson is a Swedish champion and World champion and one of the most skilled and promising young fighters in Scandinavia right now.

Carlsson won silver in the 2023 Swedish Championships back in September after a tough fight against Vilda Ekhorn.

20. Anne-Line Hogstad

As a two-time ISKA World Champion, three-time Norwegian champion, ISKA scandinavian champion and a two-time Scandinavian K1 Champion, it’s fair to claim that Norway’s Anne-Line Hogstad is one of the absolute best Scandinavian fighters over the past few years.

19. Vilda Ekhorn

Vilda Ekhorn had a massive 2023 and is most definitely one of the most promising Muay Thai fighters in Scandinavia right now.

After winning a gold medal at the 2023 IMAF World Cup in Thailand, Ekohorn won her pro debut at MTFL: Unite Against Cancer in October after defeating one of Scandinavias best fighters in Anne-Line Hogstad via unanimous decision.

18. Kristoffer Björkskog

The tough and skilled Kristoffer ”Krasti” Björkskog is a Finnish Champion and a rising star on the Nordic Muay Thai scene.

Besides facing some of the best fighters in Scandinavia, Björkskog also competed in Thailand.

Two-time Swedish champion and IFMA world champion, WKN European Champion – Dalian Dawody is one hell of a Muay Thai fighter.

Dawody is set for a highly anticipated fight against Jonathan Larsson at MTFL 7.0 in Stockholm.

16. Linus Bylander

The skilled striker Linus Bylander is a three-time Swedish Champion and has won a number of international medals including medals in European and World Championships. His 2023 war with Nasim Kazem was an unforgettable bloodbath that earned him even more acclaim.

Muay Thai For Life: Unite Against Cancer in November, Bylander became the very first Professional WMC Muay Thai National Champion of Sweden.

15. Kim Falk

Kim “No Mercy” Falk is historic as the only one winning three Swedish Championships in three weight classes.

The hard-hitting striker is also a Scandinavian WBC champion and a former contestant of the Road to ONE tournament.

14. Tessa Kakkonen

The colorful and entertaining Freddy Castro Gonzalez is one of the best fighters around and recently competed in Thailand where he put together a string of impressive wins.

Former Swedish champion in both Muay Thai and kickboxning, Freddy Castro Gonzalez is one of the best fighters around. The entertaining fighter has relocated to Thailand where he has taken on some really serious opponents.

12. Sam Ghoroghi

Gothenburg’s Sam “The Surgeon” Ghoroghi has become a fan favorite at Zone Pro League, winning tough bouts against skilled opponents in the organization.

The former Swedish Muay Thai champion, and Swedish Kickboxing Championship silver medalist, is a technical striker who always delivers in the ring.

11. Magnus Andersson

The experienced and decorated Magnus “Crazy Viking” Andersson is a very active fighter on the international pro scene.

During 2023 he won the Budo Sento championship and challenged for the WMO world title on short notice, among other fights.

10. Mustafa Aboutaka

Helsingborg’s Mustafa Aboutaka won a gold medal at the 2023 IFMA Senior World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. The win marked the first gold medal for a male fighter since 2004.

Aboutaka is also a two-time Swedish junior champion and the 2020 senior champion.

”El Bandido” fought in promotions like Muay Thai For Life, and Superior Challenge and Fight Club Rush, where he pulled off a big first-round TKO win in a MMA fight against Toni Lampinen in his last outing.

With three Swedish championships, European championship and a IFMA World Championship gold, very few Scandinavian fighters can compare with Emma Stonegård when it comes to credentials.

Stonegård also challenged for a pro world title in kickboxing in 2023 as she took on Jorina Baars.

Denmark’s Johannes Bakke Petersen is a Muay Thai Grand Prix 61.2kg world champion and holds a WBC National title.

On his resume he also has a WKU World Championship gold medal from Athens back in 2018.

Patricia Axling is a true veteran of the game and one of the most decorated fighters on the list with multiple titles in Sweden, Europe and a number of World Championship gold medals. In June 2023 she won a ES gold medal, the closest you can get to an Olympic medal in Muay Thai.

Axling is in fact one of the best credentialed female Muay Thai fighters in Scandinavia.

5. Jonathan Larsson

Three-time WMC Swedish champion and world bronze medalist Jonathan Larsson is one of the absolute hottest fighters in Scandinavia right now.

Larsson competed in promotions like Muay Thai For Life and STHLM Fight Night.

4. Nicolas Bryant

Nicholas Bryant is one of the hottest Muay Thai fighters in Scandinavia right now with a WMC European title to his name.

With solid wins at MTFL the Gothenburg’s established himself as a fan favorite in the promotion, and will return to action on MTFL: 7.0 in Stockholm.

Bryant is a three-time Swedish Muay Thai champion and holds a 7-1 record, with a string of impressive wins.

3. Niclas Larsen

Fighting for major organization ONE Championship, and with a WBC world title to his name, Niclas Larsen from Denmark is one of Scandinavia’s absolute most formidable Muay Thai fighters.

On December 11, 2021, Larsen defeated Valentin Thibaut to win the vacant WBC Muay Thai World Super Welterweight title.

2. Youssef Assouik

The entertaining Danish-Moroccan Muay Thai kickboxer Youssef Assouik is the reigning WMC World Middleweight Champion.

At Muay Thai For Life 4.0 in 2022, he won the WMC European 168 lbs title by unanimous decision as he defeated Nicolas Mendes.

ONE Championship’s Smilla Sundell is one of the absolute best Muay Thai fighters in the world.

At ONE 156 on 22 April 2022, the young Swede became historic as ONE’s youngest champion ever when she defeated Jackie Buntan for the inaugural ONE Women’s strawweight Muay Thai World Championship.

Sundell made her first title defense against Allycia Rodrigues on September 29, 2023, and retained the belt by a brutal third-round technical knockout.

The young champion will transform into a full-feathered MMA fighter in the next couple of years.

“In two years I think, when I’m twenty. So yeah, in two years,” told Frontkick in October 2023.
