Frontkick’s Tobias Lindkvist talks major and minor events from this past week in the Sunday Column.

1. Arman Tsarukyan’s temper can cost him the title shot

Arman Tsarukyan got a nine-month suspension with a chance to have that reduced to six months after he got into an altercation with a fan at UFC 300.

”No one show me ‘Fuck you.’ It doesn’t matter who you are, I’m going to punch you in the face,” Tsarukayan said about the incident.

Well, all the bravado aside, the lightweight will probably have to re-think that approach from now on.

The nine-month suspension would prevent him from fighting again in 2024. That would be nothing but disastrous considering Tsarukyan was probably next in line for a title shot against Islam Makhachev. All signs pointing towards that Makhachev will defend his strap at the UFC event in Abu Dhabi in October.

Losing a shot at the title for a beating a fan? Ouch!

Alex Pereira is the biggest star of MMA in 2024. Period.

3. Bobby Knuckle’s win-win situation

Robert Whittaker weighing in as the backup for the next UFC middleweight title bout is a win-win situation for the former champ.

Since Adesanya defeated him twice, it would be hard to get a third title fight against him.

Whittaker has only lost to du Plessis once, but as Dricus is the champion, ”Bobby Knuckle” could face him a lot sooner as a backup if, God forbid, Adesanya gets hurt.

However, let’s hope Izzy and Du Plessis finally fights in August and the winner will face Whittaker next.

4. AFN’s MMA mania

Swedish MMA promotion Allstars Fight Night’s seventh event, AFN 7, featured no fewer than 18 (!) pro and amateur MMA fights. That’s as close to an overdose of MMA as you can get!
