Gerald Meerschaert breaks Anderson Silva’s record
MMA veteran Gerald Meerschaert has earned all 12 of his UFC wins by stoppage, which is most in UFC middleweight history. This past Saturday he got his 12th win via stoppage and broke Anderson Silva’s record at 11.
“It’s cool to say,” Meerschaert said. “I don’t think about it too much right now. It’s just kind of one fight at a time, and I wish I could give you more than that because it is a cool thing.”
Caio Borralho wants top 5 fight next
Caio Borralho showed heart and skills as he defeated former title challenger Jared Cannonier at this past Saturday’s main event. Now he wants recognition for his performance.
“Tell me one guy that did that to Jared. There’s nobody that did that to Jared the way I did it. The durability that I had over the shots that I took, and I kept standing. I’m very proud of my performance,” Borralho said at the post-fight press conference.
“I’m top five right now – at least, I deserve a top-five spot on Tuesday. I think I proved myself as one of the best in the division, that I can strike and not only grapple.”
Topuria claims his brother has UFC champion potential
Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria thinks his brother, new UFC signee Aleksandre Topuria, got what it takes to also become a champion in the world’s premier MMA promotion.
“I’m telling you: He’s the next UFC world champion. Maybe he’s even better than me. He’s a very, very good fighter. Very technical. People will enjoy his fights,” Ilia told MMA Junkie.
Morales aims for title fight in two years
Undefeated rising star Michael Morales (17-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) has his sights set on UFC welterweight gold. This past Saturday he stopped crafty veteran Neil Magny in the first round.
“I’ve always said by 27, I want to be a champion,” Morales said at the post-fight press conference. “You never know. Listen, at 25, Here I am. I never thought I was going to come in the UFC that early, and here I was at 21. Maybe top five, top 10 at the end of the year, and let’s see what happens.”
