Three possible matchups for Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson was scheduled to fight Ben Rothwell on May 21. However, as reported yesterday Rothwell has been released from the UFC.

With the American out of the picture Gustafsson now stands without opponent for his UFC bout. But with almost two months remaining to the card UFC should have more than enough time to find a new opponent for the Swede. Let’s take a closer look at three heavyweights that the Swedish MMA star could potentially face on May 21.

Ovince Saint Preux

If Alexander Gustafsson’s team have their way Ovince Saint Preux is the man to step in on May 21. The two former light heavyweights was actually roumored to face each other a couple of years back, but nothing happened then.

However, Saint Preux is already scheduled to fight Maurício Rua at 205 at UFC 274.

Walt Harris

Walt Harris may come from three straight losses, against top fighters Alistair Overeem, Alexander Volkov and Marcin Tybura, but the No. 14 ranked heavyweight is a man you never count out.

Harris has not fought since June 5, 2021 when he faced Marcin Tybura. A fight he lost via TKO in round one. A household name as Gustafsson may be a fight worth taking for Harris.

Andrei Arlovski

Veteran Andrei Arlovski is another potentional opponent for Alexander Gustafsson.  The 43-year-old is currently on a streak in the UFC with three straight wins over Chase Sherman, Carlos Felipe and Jared Vanderaa. To add Gustafsson’s name to the list could certainly be appealing for Arlovski.
