By carefully adjusting their weight during fight camp, MMA fighters reach a point where this fluid loss will (hopefully) get them at the weight grade they intend to fight in.
The athletes lose weight by evacuating as much water from their body as possible, to get as big of a weight advantage on fight day.
However, more often than not the fighters struggle to make weight, and sometimes even get in serious condition before fight day.

T.J Dillsahaw makes 125 lbs

When former bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw agreed to challenge Henry Cejudo for the 125-pound title, he reportedly weighed 154 pounds with 8 percent body fat.
Cutting 29 pounds in 12 weeks for his flyweight title fight was too much for the former champ. Not only did he lose the fight just 32 seconds into the first round, he was also testing positive for recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO) and was suspended for two years by USADA.
Anthony Johnson makes 170 lbs

How light heavyweight contender Anthony ”Rumble” Johnson was able to spend a good portion of his career at welterweight is a mystery when you know how intimidating he was at 205.
In the photo above he reportedly weighed 285 lbs.
Max Holloway’s failed weight cut
Featherweight champion Max Holloway was forced to pull out of his UFC 226 fight against Brian Ortega, three days before the event, due to a unhealthy weight cut.
Just hours before the official announcement, a slurring Holloway took part in a scary interview with UFC Tonight, where he showed concussion-like symptoms.
